Liverpool Dutch Winger Adekanye : Nigeria Has Never Approached Me
Published: December 18, 2016
Liverpool wonnderkid Bobby Adekanye has revealed that he has never been officially approached by the Nigeria Football Federation regarding representing the national teams.
The 17-year-old, who was born in Ibadan, has amassed eleven caps or more for Holland youth teams since he made his international debut for their U16 team in the goalless draw with Spain at the 2015 UEFA Development Tournament.
Two years ago, ex-Golden Eaglets coach Emmanuel Amuneke challenged Adekanye to attend the Golden Eaglets camp in Abuja to prove his mettle, without formally inviting him.
“I was born in Nigeria and I love Nigeria. My father always tells me Nigeria is our home, ” Bobby Adekanye told allnigeriasoccer.com last year.
“About the Golden Eaglets coach, Emmanuel Amuneke never made contact with me, my father or my club. He only said it in the newspapers.”
Adekanye appeared for the youth teams of VV Alphia, Ajax Amsterdam, Barcelona and PSV before switching to Liverpool in 2015.
He helped Liverpool progress to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup on Saturday, playing the first half of the tie versus Crystal Palace.
