Man City, Arsenal Wonderkids Iheanacho & Iwobi Make Final Shortlist For CAF Awards
Published: January 05, 2017
Two of Nigeria’s biggest talents in the shape of Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho and Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi have been included in the final shortlist announced by CAF for the Most Promising Talent and Youth Player of the Year respectively.
In his bid to scoop the accolade for the second time, Iheanacho will have to see off competition from Elia Meschak (DR Congo & TP Mazembe) and Naby Keita (Guinea & RB Leipzig) after CAF pruned down the final list to three players for the award.
As for Iwobi, he has been nominated alongside Sandra Owusu-Ansah (Ghana & Supreme Ladies) and Eric Ayiah (Ghana& Charity FC) for the Youth Player of the Year.
Super Falcons coach Florence Omagbemi and Asisat Oshoala have been considered for the Coach of the Year and Women’s Player of the Year respectively, having made the final list.
Nigeria will compete with Cameroon and South Africa for the Women’s National Team of the Year.
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Iheanacho and Iwobi will not attend the award ceremony in Abuja on Thursday because of commitments with their Premier League clubs.
