Leicester New Star Ndidi Contender For Prestigious Belgian Golden Shoe

Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi is one of the contenders for the prestigious Belgian Golden Shoe, an award given at the end of each calendar year to the best player in the Belgian First Division A.
Voetbalprimeur.be has selected the eight major contenders for the award, with the ex-Racing Genk midfielder making the list.
Youri Tielemans (RSC Anderlecht), José Izquierdo (Club Brugge), Alejandro Pozuelo (KRC Genk), Ruud Vormer (Club Brugge), Soualiho Meité (SV Zulte Waregem), Stefano Denswil (Club Brugge) and Lukasz Teodorczyk (RSC Anderlecht) have all been mentioned as a possible winner of the award.
“The twenty-year-old Nigerian was last year and this season the big vacuum in the middle of Genk. Those who wanted to score a goal against Genk must first pass Ndidi, ” the editors wrote.
“The midfielder did not just impress in Belgium, but also in Europe which eventually earned him a transfer to Leicester City, with Genk pocketing a lot of money.
“Ndidi is barely twenty years old, but there is no doubt that he has a great future.”
Since the inception of the award in 1954, no player of Nigerian descent has managed to win the accolade.
