Arsenal Boss Explains Why He Started Alex Iwobi Against Sutton United
Published: February 21, 2017
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has explained why he had to start the likes of Alex Iwobi, Shkodran Mustafi, Nacho Monreal and Granit Xhaka against non-league opponents Sutton United in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The Frenchman has stressed that he could not underrate the fifth-tier side and had to go to Gander Green Lane with his best available squad.
“Of course, we could not afford a light team selection tonight and that is why I came with basically all the players who were available because we couldn’t afford to go out tonight, we can never afford it, ”Wenger said.
Arsenal won the game thanks to goals from Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott, who scored his 100th goal for the club.
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi was replaced in the 74th minute.
