Why Panathinaikos Pulled Out Of Deal To Sign Eddy Onazi
Published: February 22, 2017
Fresh reports emanating from the Greek media indicate that Eddy Onazi did not fail trials at Panathinaikos before he switched to Lazio the following year.
Onazi and ex-Golden Eaglets teammate Sani Emmanuel tried their luck at Panathinaikos in 2010 but the capital outfit passed up the opportunity to sign both players due to the demands of My People FC.
Contra.gr says the Nigerian club demanded €500,000 before agreeing to sell the defensive midfielder to The Greens.
Onazi had tested with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur prior to his trip to Greece but the deal fell through because he was not eligible for a UK work permit.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a possible move to Chinese outfit Henan Jianye this month.
