Europa League Wrap: Tony Scores; Chima Debuts; Simon, Esiti Star; Aminu Injured; Dele Sees Red

Umar Aminu and Brown Ideye were not on parade at Osmanli Stadi as Olympiakos qualified for the last 16 after a 3-0 rout of Osmanlispor FK. The Dream Team VI star is injured while Ideye is on the verge of completing his move to Tianjin Teda in China.

Daniel Chima finally made his competitive debut for Legia Warsaw in their 1-0 loss to Ajax Amsterdam at the Amsterdam ArenA. The striker played the last eight minutes of the contest.

Israeli champions Hapoel Beer Sheva joined Legia in crashing out of the competition after losing 5-2 on aggregate to Besiktas. Anthony Nwakaeme tied the game on the night in the 64th minute.

The striker and Super Eagles midfielder John Ogu lasted the distance at Vodafone Arena.

Fred Friday started and subbed out in the 77th minute of AZ Alkmaar’s 7-1 loss to Lyon at Stade des Lumieres. The Dutch team failed to progress to the next round.

Belgian club Gent advanced to the last sixteen thanks to their 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.  Spurs star Dele Alli was red carded in the 40th minute.

Moses Simon and Anderson Esiti made Gent’s starting line-up and the winger was replaced with 15 minutes left on the clock. Simon had his moment to equalize for the visitors, but could only find the side-netting two minutes before he was replaced.

Teammates Samuel Kalu and Rabiu Ibrahim watched proceedings from the bench for the entirety of the game.
