Nigerian Defender, Tipped To Be The Next Dani Alves, Rated Among Man Utd's Modern Full-Backs
Published: July 05, 2017
American youth international of Nigerian descent Matthew Olosunde has been picked among the best modern day full-backs at Manchester United.
Ahead of the opening weekend of the 2017-2018 season, The Red Devils have beamed their searchlight on the most promising wing-backs on the youth teams, with Matthew Olosunde, Joe Riley, Demi Mitchell, Jake Kenyon and George Tanner selected.
Olosunde offers versatility as he is equally comfortable playing as a central defender and defensive midfielder, but he recently admitted that his favorite position is right wing-back.
''Matthew Olosunde began to nail down the position on the other side of the defence under interim coach Nicky Butt and finished the campaign strongly, with his surging runs down the flank a key feature of the side's attacking play,'' wrote Manchester United on their official website.
Joe Riley added : ''I’m happy for him (Demi) and Matthew Olosunde at right-back as well. ''
''Both full-backs are playing really well. I saw Matthew’s goal at the Dallas Cup on social media and it was a great goal!''
Matthew Olosunde jetted to the United Kingdom last Friday ahead of the start of pre-season training at Manchester United.
