Former Rangers striker Cedric Itten names two Nigerian players he still keeps in touch with

Former Rangers striker Cedric Itten has revealed that he remains in contact with two Super Eagles players, Calvin Bassey and Leon Balogun, following their successful spells together at Ibrox.

Bassey and Balogun enjoyed a successful period with the Scottish giants, helping the club win the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020/2021 campaign under Steven Gerrard.

The Nigerian internationals also reached the UEFA Europa League final the following season, where Rangers eventually lost to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties.

Itten, who was part of the Rangers squad during that period, revealed that he still maintains a close relationship with both Nigerian players, highlighting the strong bond and togetherness within the team.

Speaking about his return to Scotland for the UEFA Nations League, Itten disclosed that he had a conversation with Balogun following the defender's return to Ibrox for his second spell with the club.

"It's nice to see the boys doing so well and this bond that we have will stick together forever," Itten said via Scottish Sun.

"When Leon Balogun went back, I spoke to him a lot as we shared the German language.

"But I speak to a lot of the boys, like Calvin Bassey, and it's always nice to see them, like Nathan after the Scotland game."

Following his successful stint in Scotland, Bassey is enjoying a good campaign with Fulham in England despite a difficult spell with Ajax in Amsterdam.

Meanwhile, Balogun is currently on the books of Hungarian club ETO Győr, whom he joined in August 2026 as he navigates the final phase of his career.
