Lazio legend Bruno Giordano has praised Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru for his physical and attacking qualities, while admitting that the Nigerian still has areas of his game to improve tactically.
Giordano, who was discussing Lazio’s squad and the players available to coach Gennaro Gattuso, identified Dele-Bashiru as a midfielder capable of causing problems for opponents because of his attributes and ability to engage in individual battles.
"Dele-Bashiru? He's a player who gives the impression of being dangerous. He's undisciplined in the game, but he has physical and attacking skills. It's unlikely because he's a man-on-man duel, even if he still has a lot to learn tactically," he said, as quoted by Lazio News.
Dele-Bashiru’s progress with Lazio this season was interrupted by a thigh injury sustained during the club’s 1-0 Serie A victory over Bologna on August 24.
He started the match but was withdrawn after 54 minutes, with medical tests later confirming a first- or second-degree tear that was expected to keep him out for at least three weeks.
The setback also affected his international involvement. Dele-Bashiru was omitted from Éric Chelle’s Nigeria squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, with his injury preventing him from being considered for the September fixtures.
Lazio took a cautious approach to his recovery, with Gattuso confirming in September that the club preferred not to rush him back against Venezia.
Dele-Bashiru then made further progress, returning to full group training towards the end of September after spending more than a month recovering from the thigh problem.
