Published: July 07, 2017
The United Soccer League announced on Thursday that former Nigeria U23 invitee Nansel Selbol has scooped the Goal of the Week award for Week 15 of the 2017 season.
The Swope Park Rangers midfielder's game-winning goal against LA Galaxy II shortly after his introduction as a substitute in the second half was the most eye-catching goal scored by a player in the American second-tier last week.
To win the accolade, Selbol beat off competition from Aaron Jones (Bethlehem Steel FC), Brian Ownby (Louisville City FC), Emrah Klimenta (Sacramento Republic FC) and Jordan Schweitzer (Orlando City B).
He earned 41 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com, while Sacramento Republic FC’s Emrah Klimenta finished second with 37 percent.
The 20-year-old has been nominated for the Goal of the Month for June alongside ex-Chelsea star Didier Drogba (Phoenix Rising FC) and eight players.
