Brazilian media outlet O Tempo has reported that representatives from Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal were in attendance during the matches that involved U17 players.
The likes of Taffarel, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Neymar played at the Belo Horizonte Youth Cup before they became famous and earned moves to top European clubs.
Flamengo wonderkid Vinícius Júnior, who has agreed to join Real Madrid when he clocks 18, was one of the stars of the tournament in 2016, with six goals to his name.
Atlético Mineiro and Cruzeiro are the most successful teams in the history of the competition with five titles each.
