Sunderland Rising Star Maja Tallies Fourth Goal In Pre-Season But Gets Injured
Published: July 22, 2017
Sunderland continued their pre-season preparations with a 3-2 win over Bradford City at Valley Parade on Saturday.
The in-form Nigerian striker Josh Maja has a strong case to force his way into the first team picture in the new season after scoring another goal for the Black Cats.
The sore point is that he had to be replaced by the Swedish U21 international of Nigerian descent Joel Asoro three minutes into the second half due to injury.
Maja volleyed home from close range to give Sunderland the lead in the fifth minute after an inviting cross from Jeremain Lens.
The 18-year-old, who was called up to the Super Eagles training camp in March 2017, has now tallied four goals in pre-season.
He bagged a brace against Bury and was also on song in Sunderland's penultimate friendly against Hartlepool United.
