Man Utd Coach Mourinho Tells Real Madrid Dazzler : You Never Wanted To Leave
Published: July 25, 2017
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has explained why he did not attempt to sign Real Madrid dazzler Gareth Bale since he took over the reins at the Red Devils.
The Wales international had been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, and United would have broken the global transfer record if the deal had materialized.
Before Manchester United took on Real Madrid in a friendly on Sunday, Mourinho explained to Bale in the tunnel that he didn't sign the winger because he did not publicly state that he wanted to leave Real Madrid.
''It is clear that Bale and Cristiano like Madrid, they like the challenge that they have there and they are at a club which is in a very good position,'' Mourinho stated ahead of the friendly.
"I never felt that they wanted to leave and so why waste time and energy in that."
Gareth Bale is contracted to the European champions until June 30, 2022 after penning an extension to his deal last October.
