Exclusive: Tashkent-Born Odemwinge Has No Uzbek Passport, Misses N1.5B Deal
Published: July 25, 2017
According to information gathered by allnigeriasoccer.com editorial staff, Nigeria international Peter Odemwingie has missed out on a move to the United Arab Emirates in the summer transfer window.
Odemwingie's form for Madura United in the Indonesian Liga 1 has not gone unnoticed by Asian clubs.
The versatile striker was approached over the possibility of joining an unnamed top-flight United Arab Emirates club, who were in the market for an attacking midfielder with an Asian passport.
Odemwingie was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan 36 years ago, and it has now come to light that he has no Uzbek passport but he's in the possession of a Russian passport, so the deal collapsed.
The former West Brom and Stoke City star would have pocketed 3.6 million euros (approximately N1.5 billion) over the duration of his three-year contract with the United Arab Emirates club.
This season, Odemwingie has netted 13 goals ( 4 assists) for Madura United in the Liga 1.
