Daniel Akpeyi Wins Fitness Battle, Partakes In Super Eagles Training
Published: August 29, 2017
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that the Super Eagles have been handed a massive boost ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon, with Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi taking part in the first training session on Tuesday evening.
There had been fears that Akpeyi won't be available for selection after picking up a training ground injury before his trip to Nigeria, but he appears to have won his fitness battle.
The three keepers in camp Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Alampasu were put through their paces by the new goalkeeper coach of the Super Eagles, Enrico Pionetti, who was very thorough.
The 24 players started the workout held at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium with a jogging session, then the goalkeepers were separated to participate in ball handling drills.
Akpeyi passed all the tests with flying colours but was the extra goalkeeper left out of the practice game.
