Akpeyi Fails Wednesday's Fitness Test As Rohr Considers Handing Ajiboye Late Call-Up
Published: August 30, 2017
It's back to square one regarding the availability of Daniel Akpeyi for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon, despite the Chippa United netminder taking part in the Super Eagles first training session on Tuesday evening.
Super Eagles medics all but ruled Akpeyi out of the game against the Indomitable Lions after the goalkeeper failed a fitness test on Wednesday morning, allnigeriasoccer.com has been informed.
The former Warri Wolves star is still being monitored by the medical team, but manager Gernot Rohr does not want to put all his eggs in one basket and is seriously considering handing a late call-up to Plateau United goalie Dele Ajiboye.
It is thought that Super Eagles B captain Ikechukwu Ezenwa will be in goal against Cameroon, ahead of Ajiboye and Dele Alampasu, if Akpeyi fails to recover on time.
Nigeria will resume preparations for the World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon on Wednesday evening.
