What Super Eagles Stars Are Saying Ahead Of Friday's Battle Of Uyo
Published: August 30, 2017
Selected Super Eagles stars faced the local media ahead of Friday's important World Cup qualifier against the Cameroonian national team at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
As first reported by allnigeriasoccer.com, Chippa United netminder Daniel Akpeyi failed a fitness test on Wednesday morning, which prompted the coach to hand a late invitation to Plateau United's Dele Ajiboye.
Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who has been earmarked as the man to replace Akpeyi, stated : ''It is a huge responsibility to represent Nigeria. I thank the coaches for this opportunity. I will not disappoint''.
Former Chelsea star Obi Mikel has set his sights on participating in his second World Cup next year, stating : ''The World Cup is the biggest stage in football. You can never have enough of it. We want to be in Russia 2018.''
Leon Balogun added : ''This is not going to be an easy game. We'll need to be at our best. We'll give our all to pick the 3 points at stake. ''
Manager Gernot Rohr has appealed to the fans to troop to the stadium in their numbers to cheer them up.
The German said : ''We want the fans to turn out and fill up the stadium early on Friday to support us to victory. We need them.''
The Super Eagles players at the press conference wore T-shirts in support of Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, who has been diagnosed with acute leukaemia.
