Super Eagles Report Cards Vs Cameroon: Moses Standout, Mikel Boss, Simon Resilient, Ighalo Lively
Published: September 01, 2017
Gernot Rohr's charges head off to Yaounde in buoyant mood as his charges displayed enough promises. But how did the Super Eagles actually rate?
Allnigeriasoccer.com runs the rule over the performance of the Super Eagles on a memorable evening.
The Starters
Ikechukwu Ezenwa 6.5/10
Ezenwa took over from Daniel Akpeyi and kept a clean sheet with impressive reflexes combined with feline agility.
The FC Ifeanyi Ubah man appeared far more confident in goal. The few times Vincent Aboubacar and his cronies managed to get past the Nigeria backline, Ezenwa was on point with his reactions. There were some few anxious moments for him
Shehu Abdullahi 6/10
Convincing. Above average and visionary. The full-back was accurate with his tackles and added bite to the Nigeria attack anytime he surged forward.
Elderson Echiejille 6/10
In a 4-3-3 formation that had Leon Balogun in action, Echiejille looked a bit more productive and covered well defensively.
William Troost Ekong 7/10
The Bursaspor man was not seriously tested but was solid when called upon. The Cameroonians didn't present much of a problem in attack.
With stronger and hungrier opponents Ekong could rise to the challenge like he has done several time in a Nigeria shirt.
Leon Balogun 7.5/10
Ekong's partner at centre-back. Both men combined well to ensure that the Indomitable Lions had little room to operate and cause any problem of a sort to the Nigerian team.
He was menacing and was at his best with timely tackles and clearances.
Ogenyi Onazi 7.5/10
Onazi was very comfortable in front of the back four. With Wilfred Ndidi tasked with the duty of working ahead, Onazi did all the dirty job and was not overawed by the occasion.
His cross was headed home by Kelechi Iheanacho for the fourth goal of the game.
Wilfred Ndidi 7/10
Energetic and inspiring midfield performance from the Leicester City midfielder. Though he couldn't get on the score-sheet his contributions to the game were vital.
John Obi Mikel 8/10
The Super Eagles skipper bossed the midfield. He looked quite ready per what he did on the pitch.
Fully attacking minded and explosive on the ball. He was involved in the first goal and scored the second of the day. He will be vital for Nigeria in Yaounde.
Odion Jude Ighalo 8/10
The Changchun Yatai striker tucked the ball past Fabrice Ondoa after out muscling Michalel Ngadeu- real goal-poacher's goal.
He was lively for the entire 60 minutes he lasted and was very difficult to handle when he got the ball.
Moses Simon 8/10
Resilient and full of energy. Simon took on the Cameroonians defence at heart and caused more problems for them defensively, giving them little time to think. He set up Victor Moses for the third goal.
Victor Moses 9/10
Victor Moses stole the show with an excellent performance as Gernot Rohr's men coasted to an inspiring 4-0 victory over Cameroon.
The Chelsea wing back announced his return to the Super Eagles squad as he headlined talks at the Godswill Akpabio
International Stadium. He was outstanding at the flank in a man of the match show.
