Mikel : We Executed Rohr's Plan Very Well, Videos Exposed Cameroon
Published: September 02, 2017
Tianjin Teda midfielder John Obi Mikel has explained why Nigeria lost their first competitive match of 2017 to South Africa, but humiliated African champions Cameroon in a World Cup qualifier on Friday evening.
Rohr could not count on the services of at least four experienced players in the shape of Victor Moses, Obi Mikel, Odion Ighalo and Leon Balogun in June's African Nations Cup qualifier against South Africa, and the aforementioned stars played a key role in yesterday's battle.
''In the last game (against South Africa) we didn't have some players, sometimes it is difficult to change five starting players in the team,'' Mikel told reporters, including allnigeriasoccer.com.
''There was no question that today we'll play better because we had a game plan, we watched a lot of videos and we sticked to the plan of what the coach told us to do and we executed it very well.
''We knew coming into the game we had a very good chance of winning, that's exactly what we did, so now we are in a very good position of qualifying for the World Cup.''
Mikel doubled Nigeria's advantage in the 42nd minute, a goal any striker would be proud of.
