Zambia Coach : We'll Try To Qualify In Next Game Against Nigeria
Published: September 06, 2017
Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda is optimistic that the Copper Bullets will qualify for the Russia 2018 World Cup despite his team three points adrift of Nigeria with two rounds left to play.
A goal from Patson Daka in the 67th minute secured a 1-0 win for the Zambians against Algeria at Stade Mohamed-Hamlaoui, Constantine on Tuesday night.
''It is clear that tonight's success allows us to get closer to Nigeria, which is the leader of the group,'' Nyirenda told reporters after Tuesday's game, according to Le Buteur.
''This victory also allows us to believe in our chances in the race for the qualification at the World Cup.
''We wanted to beat Algeria home and away and that's what we achieved. ''
He added : ''From now on, we are going to give ourselves a whole lot and think about our next game against Nigeria, to try to qualify.
''Now we are seriously thinking about qualifying at the World Cup.''
Nigeria will qualify for their sixth World Cup if they beat Zambia at home in Uyo on October 7.
