Nigerian Midfielder Enters The History Books After 50th Goal In Azerbaijan
Published: September 12, 2017
FK Zira midfielder Victor Igbekoyi became only the third foreigner to score fifty or more goals in the Azerbaijan Championship following his strike against Qabala on Saturday.
According to Azerisport, Igbekoyi's goal at Gabala City Stadium was his 50th strike from 273 matches in the championship of Azerbaijan.
The 31-year-old came off the bench in the 66th minute and opened the scoring with 16 minutes left on the clock.
Victor Igbekoyi, who represented Sunshine Stars before his move to Azerbaijan 12 years ago, had stops at Turan, Qarabag Agdam and AZAL before transferring to FK Zira in 2015.
In 2012, the Ondo State born midfielder had claimed he was eligible to represent the national team of Sierra Leone and was invited for a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations final-round qualifying match against Tunisia.
But the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) later withdrew him from the squad over fears about his eligibility.
