Chelsea Legend Tells Abraham What To Do To Break Into First Team
Published: October 09, 2017
Chelsea legend Claude Makelele is backing Tammy Abraham to break into the first team of the Premier League champions, but admitted that the England U21 star has to keep learning his trade at Swansea City so he can become a better striker.
This season is the 20-year-old's second spell on loan from Stamford Bridge as Chelsea manager Antonio Conte could not guarantee the striker playing opportunities at the highest level despite impressing in the Championship for Bristol City last term.
''I hope so. He needs to be successful with Swansea first and learn more and more to come back and push for Antonio Conte's team,'' Claude Makelele told London Evening Standard.
''It's going to be difficult. He needs to adapt very well but we will push him. But he has to show the ambition to reach the top.
"I tell him to do everything: run, fight. Some young players think about dribbling but they need to understand about their teammates. He is fast. Go in space and you'll make the difference for your team-mates. It all depends on him.
"He's good. But he has to push himself and learn more. Then he can be one of the best strikers in the Premier League."
In nine outings for the Swans in all competitions this season, Abraham has found the net three times.
