Nigeria are set to remain the fifth best team in Africa when Fifa announces it latest ranking of national teams next week, allnigeriasoccer.com understands.
The Super Eagles were on 696 points when the ranking was released in September but have accumulated twenty five more points following their 1-0 win over Zambia on Saturday.
Nigeria recorded three wins and drew two matches at the WAFU Cup of Nations but the tournament was not sanctioned by Fifa and it has not been used to calculate the next ranking of national teams.
Eyebrows were raised when Nigeria dropped in September's ranking despite beating African champions Cameroon in Uyo and holding them to a goalless draw in Yaounde, however, they saw their points devalued after losing 1-0 to Benin Republic in an African Nations Championship qualifier, which is classed as a friendly by Fifa.
Tunisia have overtaken Egypt as the best team in Africa, thanks to their impressive 4-1 road win over Guinea last weekend.
Fifa will seed all the World Cup teams based on their ranking in October 2017, and Nigeria are expected to be in Pot 4.
