Arsenal Wonderkid Okoflex Turning Heads In Victory Shield, Scores For Ireland
Published: October 25, 2017
Arsenal wonderkid Armstrong Okoflex has been one of the standout players at the ongoing Victory Shield tournament in Northern Ireland.
The Republic of Ireland Under 16s won their opening game on Monday thanks to a goal from Parrot, who converted a spot kick after Okoflex was fouled in the box.
In their second game of the tourney on Wednesday afternoon, Okoflex and Manchester United striker of Nigerian parentage Mipo Odubeko started on the bench as the Republic of Ireland and Wales ended up sharing the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
The Welsh opened the scoring in the 18th minute through Jack Madelin but both teams were level at the break with Matt Everitt netting an equalizer.
On 72 minutes, captain Luc Noble scored to give Wales a one-goal lead, before substitute Okoflex's goal arrived with almost the last kick of the game.
Born in Dublin fifteen years ago to Nigerian parents, Okoflex joined Arsenal in 2013 and made his competitive debut for the U18s this season.
Republic of Ireland will retain the Victory Shield if they beat Scotland in their final game on Friday.
