Why Uzoho Was Invited? Rohr Does Not Trust Ezenwa & Alampasu Inactive
Published: October 31, 2017
Young Deportivo de La Coruña goalkeeper Francis Uzoho earned his maiden call-up to the Super Eagles because manager Gernot Rohr is not convinced of the qualities of Ikechukwu Ezenwa.
The invitation of the 19-year-old was not a straightforward process as CD Feirense goalkeeper Dele Alampasu was also considered but the plan to invite him was later jettisoned as a result of his inactivity for the Portuguese club.
''Gernot Rohr does not trust Ezenwa and Akpeyi, he trusts only Carl Ikeme and Vincent Enyeama, '' a Nigeria Football Federation insider told allnigeriasoccer.com.
''Rohr likes Alampasu a lot because he does well whenever he's with the national team, but he wasn't invited because his club situation counted against him, he's not playing for his club and he's inexperienced.
''If you study the games against Cameroon and Zambia, Ezenwa was shaky in those games. He is not tall and not a World Cup goalkeeper''.
Uzoho debuted for Deportivo's first team in La Liga two weeks ago against Eibar, before retaining his place in the starting line-up against Girona.
