Sunderland Boss Hails Nigerian Wonderkids After First Home Win In 2017
Published: December 17, 2017
Sunderland manager Chris Coleman had nothing but praise for Nigerian wonderkids Josh Maja and Joel Asoro after they came off the bench to help the Black Cats secure a 1-0 win over Fulham at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
Maja needed only five minutes to net the winner after his introduction and gave Sunderland their first home win in 2017
Sunderland's last home win before the contest against the Cottagers was against Watford on December 17, 2016, and they had played 21 matches at the Stadium of Light without winning.
''It was a great finish,” Coleman told safc.com.
''The game was balanced nicely and it was a nice time to introduce two new strikers onto the pitch.
''Grabbs and Vaughany had done their job really well, they had worked really hard and apart from a fantastic save from the Fulham No.1, we would’ve been 1-0 up anyway.
''We thought it was a good moment to bring on two young players and they didn’t disappoint.''
Maja's performance at Sunderland is being monitored by the Nigeria Football Federation, and the ex-Man City starlet was called up to the Super Eagles squad for their get-together in London in March 2017.
