Guardiola Names Three Nigerian Super Kids In Matchday Squad Vs Leicester City
Published: December 19, 2017
Manager Pep Guardiola has named three Nigerian super kids in his matchday squad for the first time since he was appointed coach of Manchester City in 2016.
Central defender Tosin Adarabioyo was included in the starting line-up in Tuesday night's League Cup quarterfinal clash against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
Prolific striker Lukas Nmecha is part of the youthful bench that also includes the very promising midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru.
The 19-year-old Nmecha was a non-playing substitute in City's win over Wolves in the fourth round and could make his competitive debut for the Citizens ten years after his arrival at the club.
The Manchester City U23 captain was top scorer in the FA Youth Cup last season with 11 goals, including two hat-tricks in the semifinal against Stoke City.
Tom Dele-Bashiru, who inherited Kelechi Iheanacho's number 72 jersey following his transfer to Leicester City, hopes to play for the Super Eagles at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He celebrated his 18th birthday in September.
Lukas Nmecha and Tom Dele-Bashiru's younger brothers, Felix Nmecha and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, play for Manchester City U18 team.
Manchester City Starting XI: Bravo, Danilo, Mangala, Adarabioyo, Zinchenko, Yaya Toure, Diaz, Foden, Bernardo, Gundogan, G Jesus
Substitutes: Ederson, Walker, Delph, Sane, Nmecha, Duhaney, Dele-Bashiru
