Arsenal's Iwobi & Chelsea's Moses Set To Trade Blows For Fifth Time In 8 Months
Published: December 21, 2017
The draw for the semifinal of the Carabao Cup took place on Wednesday night, shortly after the four confirmed teams booked their tickets to the next round.
There is a lot of Nigerian interest in this competition, with Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea, who all parade Nigerian players qualifying for the last four, and the three Premier League teams are joined by Championship outfit Bristol City.
The pick of the games will see Alex Iwobi and Chuba Akpom's Arsenal trade tackles with Victor Moses and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the week commencing January 8, with the return leg at the Emirates Stadium a fortnight later.
Iwobi helped the Gunners qualify for the semifinals, tasting action against Doncaster Rovers and Norwich City, while Moses has yet to feature for the Blues.
It would be the fifth time in eight months the two Nigeria internationals would face off in competitive and friendly matches.
They both made the squads for the FA Cup final (May 27), a friendly in Beijing (July 27), Community Shield (August 6) and the Premier League game at Stamford Bridge (September 17).
In the other semifinal, the Nigerian contingent at Manchester City in the shape of Tosin Adarabioyo, Tom Dele-Bashiru and Lukas Nmecha will play against Bristol City, who beat Manchester United in the quarterfinals.
