Super-Scout Who Discovered Iwobi & Akpom Promoted At Arsenal
Published: December 21, 2017
Shaun O'Connor, who discovered Super Eagles winger Alex Iwobi and Chuba
Akpom, is in line to be promoted at Arsenal, according to reports.
The Daily Mail says he is to be promoted as senior scout under head of recruitment Sven Mislintat, and will now be responsible for identifying domestic talent for the first team.
O'Connor rejoined the Gunners in 2014 from Brentford, and is also credited with the discovery of Jack Wilshere and Chris Willock.
Akpom has been training with Arsenal since the age of six and manager Arsene Wenger showed faith in him when he handed the striker his professional debut in a 3–1 win over Sunderland on 14 September 2013, a month before his 18th birthday.
The 22-year-old has caps for England U16, U17, U19, U20 and U21 teams but appears to have committed his international future to Nigeria, having trained with the Super Eagles in March 2017.
Iwobi has been a shining light at Arsenal since making his competitive debut against Sheffield Wednesday in October 2015 and is a certainty to be named to the Nigerian roster for the 2018 World Cup.
