Man City's Nigerian Midfielder Dubbed The New Yaya Toure Getting Advice From Ivorian Star
Published: December 27, 2017
Tom Dele-Bashiru has revealed that Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure gave him advice when he made his professional debut in Manchester City’s Carabao Cup clash against Leicester City on December 19.
The English-born Nigerian has been tipped to become the natural heir to Toure when the former African Footballer of the Year quits the Etihad Stadium in the near future.
Dele-Bashiru made his first-team debut when he came off the bench to replace Phil Folden in the 91st minute.
''I was nervous coming into the game but as the half an hour came on I got more confident and settled into the game more I think, but it was a great experience for me,'' Dele-Bashiru told Manchester City's official website.
''Yaya [Toure] was giving me a lot of advice and support but all of them were helping and telling me I could do it.
''I think I started it off playing a bit safe, but as the game went on I got into it more and was more confident on the ball - Pep said I played well and was proud of all the young players. ''
