Nigerian Striker Obafemi Shortlisted For Southampton Goal Of The Month
Published: January 02, 2018
Nigerian striker Michael Obafemi is in the running for Southampton's Sure Goal of the Month for December 2017.
The 17-year-old's brilliant strike against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the third round of the FA Youth Cup has been nominated for the award.
Obafemi was shortlisted for the award along with Matt Targett and Charlie Austin.
He celebrated the first hat-trick of his Saints career as Southampton thrashed Wolves 4-1 in the FA Youth Cup on December 14, 2017.
As at the time of this report, Obafemi was not doing badly in the poll on the official website of Southampton, as he has claimed 29 percent of the votes and is presently second behind first-teamer Charlie Austin.
If the striker wins the accolade, he will follow in the footsteps of Nigerian winger Nathan Tella, who won the award in May 2017.
Obafemi was a member of the Republic of Ireland U19 squad that qualified for the UEFA European Championship Elite Round in October.
