Promising defensive midfielder Jordan Houghton has more or less bid farewell to Chelsea after extending his loan deal at EFL League One team Doncaster Rovers until the end of the season.
The deal was completed in time, allowing him to feature in the Emirates FA Cup third round tie against Rochdale on Saturday,
Houghton's contract with Chelsea is due to run out on June 30, 2018, meaning he has to look for a new employer ahead of the start of next season if the Premier League champions don't extend his contract.
''They have been really good in terms of tracking my progress here, they knew I wanted to stay so have done everything they can to make it happen,'' Houghton told doncasterroversfc.co.uk.
''The main thing for me was getting it done nice and early in this window as I wanted to get prepared for a big game in the FA Cup.
''There have been talks over the past few weeks and that gradually built up to getting it across the line and agreeing on a deal which suited everyone.''
He joined Chelsea as an U8 and has played for England's U16, U17 and U20 teams.
