CSKA 2 Arsenal 2: Musa Goes 90, Iwobi Subbed In As Gunners Seal Passage To Final Four UEL
Published: April 12, 2018
Danny Welbeck and Aaron Ramsey struck late second half goals as Arsenal survived some scare in Moscow to move into the UEFA Europa League semifinals 6-3 on aggregate after posting a 2-2 draw with CSKA Moscow on the night on Thursday evening.
Ahmed Musa started for the hosts while his compatriot Alex Iwobi was named among the substitutes for Arsenal.
Fedor Chalov gave the Muscovites the lead after 39 minutes, with Nacho Monreal and Shkodran Mustafi failing to track the Russian's run for a tap in from a Nababkin's cross.
Arsenal's poor defending on the night profited CSKA yet another goal and within touching distance of overturning their first leg deficit, Nababkin the scorer now after racing into the area to fire home after Peter Cech had failed to properly keep out a Konstantin Kuchaez's shot.
But Danny Welbeck settled any fraying nerves as he made it 2-1 fifteen minutes from time, getting onto the end of Mohammed Elneny's weighted pass to prod home.
There was still time for Aaron Ramsey to chip over CSKA goaltender, Igor Akinfeev in the dying embers of the game to level the scores as Arsenal banished a horror first half showing.
Alex Iwobi came on after 77 minutes for Alexandre Lacazette while Musa was afforded the entirety of the game.
