Fanendo Adi Nine Goals Shy Of Equaling Portland Timbers Leading Scorer In History
Published: April 15, 2018
Fanendo Adi netted his first goal in Major League Soccer since July 5, 2017 as Portland Timbers beat Minnesota United FC 3-2 Saturday night at Providence Park.
On 74 minutes, the former Super Eagles invitee redirected a shot into the net and in doing so he tallied his 52nd career goal for the Timbers, which is the second most in the history of the club behind top man Diego Valeri with 61 league goals.
Adi spent the second half of the 2017 campaign on the sidelines due to a muscle injury which limited his appearances in the American topflight to a total of 22 matches.
Reacting to his performance post-match, Adi said : ''The confidence has always been there, but of course it’s always good to score the goal.
''I’m always humble and relaxed and when you keep working hard in training, things are going to turn out to be as you want it to be.
''Today is just one of those days and I’m excited to be on the scoresheet today.''
Portland Timbers, who are second from bottom in the Western Conference standings, are at home to New York City FC in the next round of matches.
