Creative Iwobi Gets Good Ratings Despite Arsenal Loss At Newcastle
Published: April 15, 2018
Super Eagles winger Alex Iwobi had a promising performance in Arsenal's humiliating 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United at Saint James' Park on Sunday and got rave reviews from the British media.
Football.London in its review of the game wrote of Iwobi: "Clearly has seen his confidence increase in recent weeks. Always wanted the ball and looked to run at the Newcastle defence whenever he could. Better from the Nigeria international." Iwobi was rated 7/10 by the publication.
ESPN.co.uk in its rating of the Nigerian stated that he was adept with his creative duties: "Looked the most creative player on the day, showing good strength and skill at times, but the lack of movement ahead of him didn't help. 6".
Meanwhile football blog dedicated to the club, Arseblog, also rated Iwobi a 6 from a possible 10.
"I thought he looked good, strong when he needed to be, and tried to make things happen at least."
Iwobi could play crucial role in ensuring that the Gunners qualify from the Champions League through the Europa League following Henrick Mnhitaryan's injury as they almost certainly cannot make it through the Premier League as they are 13 points adrift of fourth placed Tottenham Hotspur.
