Uwakwe & Walters Start As Tottenham End Chelsea's Three-Year Unbeaten Home Record
Published: April 18, 2018
Chelsea's three-year unbeaten home record ended on Wednesday afternoon after they suffered a 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in an U18 Premier League tie held at Cobham Training Centre.
The Young Blues had already wrapped up the title and could afford to take their foot off the pedal with an eye on the upcoming UEFA Youth League match against Porto on April 20.
And they paid dearly for that decision, with the leading scorer in the league Griffiths opening the scoring on 16 minutes before further strikes from Richards and Markanday in the second half condemned them to a 3-0 loss.
Versatile midfielder Tariq Uwakwe is unlikely to play for Chelsea against the Portuguese setup in the UYL after starting and logging 75 minutes against Tottenham Hotspur, teammate Faustino Anjorin was not named in the 15-man squad, while Tushaun Walters played the full ninety.
England U17 World Cup-winning defender Timothy Eyoma went the distance for Tottenham while goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi was a non-playing substitute.
Middlesbrough U18 were the last team to beat Chelsea at home on April 4, 2015 and the London team contained three Nigeria targets in the starting line-up Tammy Abraham, Ike Ugbo and Fikayo Tomori.
