Chelsea To Pay 2.5M Pounds For Ampadu : Nigeria's Top Ten Costliest U19 Transfers

The Professional Football Compensation Committee on Friday, April 20 revealed the compensation fee Chelsea will pay to Exeter City for Wales international of Ghanaian descent Ethan Ampadu.
The League Two club have published on their official website that Exeter’s total compensation is up to £2.5m: comprising a guaranteed sum of £1.3m based on a transfer fee plus international and first-team appearances already made, with the balance made up of contingent sums amounting to of a further £1.25m depending on the player’s first team appearances with Chelsea, together with 20% of any excess.
The £2.5 million Chelsea will pay is £0.2m less than the total amount Wigan Athletic paid to Crystal Palace for the services of a then 19-year-old Victor Moses, the seventh biggest fee paid for a Nigerian teenager to date.
The most expensive transfer involving a Nigerian teenager is Mikel Obi's transfer from Lyn Oslo to Chelsea for 16 million pounds, while Ahmed Musa commanded a transfer fee of £4.5m when he joined CSKA Moscow in January 2012 aged 19.
At £3.53m, Nwankwo Kanu's move from Inter Milan to Arsenal is the third most expensive transfer involving a Nigerian teenager.
Nigeria's joint-costliest 18-year-old and most expensive teenage defender in history is Celestine Babayaro, who joined Chelsea from RSC Anderlecht for 3.15 million pounds, a club record for a teenager at the time.
