Liverpool's Nigerian Loanee Nets First Professional Goal
Published: May 06, 2018
Former Nigeria U17 invitee Ovie Ejaria netted his first professional goal as relegated Sunderland beat second-tier champions Wolverhampton Wanderers on the final day of the season.
The Liverpool loanee and Joel Asoro put in a full shift for the Black Cats while Wolves Nigerian-born striker Bright Enobakhare entered into the fray ten minutes into the second half.
In the nineteenth minute, Ejaria broke the deadlock when he slotted home the rebound after goalkeeper Will Norris spilled a low cross from the right by Patrick McNair.
The central midfielder had a chance to double Sunderland's advantage on the half-hour mark but a free-kick he bent around the Wolves wall was gathered by the goalkeeper.
With seven minutes left on the clock, Ejaria would have added a second to his tally and scored Sunderland's fourth of the afternoon but substitute goalkeeper Burgoyne saved brilliantly at his feet.
The England U21 international played 19 games cumulatively for Liverpool and Sunderland and spent 1,147 minutes on the pitch before scoring his first senior goal.
