Chelsea 1 Huddersfield 1: Billing Magnificent, Moses Benched, Argentina GK Flops
Published: May 09, 2018
Huddersfield ensured their Premier League safety after holding Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening.
While Nigerian international, Victor Moses was an unused substitute from the encounter and Argentine goalkeeper, Willy Caballero starting in goal for the hosts, Huddersfield midfielder of Nigerian descent, Philip Billing made his 15th league appearance for the Terriers.
Laurent Depoitre tapped home after colliding with Caballero following a Chelsea defensive mix-up in the 50th minute to gift the visitors the lead.
Chelsea who were chasing a victory to keep up with Tottenham in the race for Champions League qualification were offered a lifeline when Zanka's clearance was diverted home by Marcos Alonso for 1-1.
Billing went close for Huddersfield at the other end after waltzing through the middle but saw his effort fizzle wide of Caballero's right hand post.
Jonas Lössl denied Alvaro Morata, Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud in a flurry of late chances as the Yorkshire club held on to secure their topflight status while Chelsea are all but confirmed to miss out of Europe's primary competition next season.
Billing who is still eligible to represent Nigeria by his parentage put in a decent full shift for the Terriers.
