Chelsea's Abraham Among Four Players Of Nigerian Descent In England Squad For Toulon Tourney
Published: May 18, 2018
Two days after he was not selected for the Three Lions squad heading to the 2018 World Cup, Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham remains committed to his country of birth after accepting a call-up to England U21 team ahead of the Maurice Revello Tournament later this month.
Abraham has been named in Aidy Boothroyd's 20-man roster along with other Nigerian Federation targets, Liverpool's Ovie Ejaria and Fikayo Tomori, while Manchester City's Lukas Nmecha also made the cut.
All the aforementioned players have debuted for England U21s apart from Nmecha who has received a maiden call-up for that age group after playing for the U16s, U17s, U18s and U19s.
England U21s have won the last two editions of the Toulon Tournament, with players of Nigerian descent playing key roles.
Wolves defender Dominic Iorfa was a member of the squad in 2016, while Chelsea youngsters Ike Ugbo and Tariq Uwakwe contested last year's final against Ivory Coast at Stade de Lattre de Tassigny (Aubagne).
The Young Lions will face China, Mexico and Qatar in Group A of the Maurice Revello Tournament.
