One-Time Man Utd Target Mikel Backing Chelsea All The Way To Win FA Cup
Published: May 19, 2018
Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel is backing Chelsea to beat Manchester United in the final of the Emirates FA Cup at Wembley on Saturday evening.
Today's match is very important to both teams as they are seeking their first silverware in the final domestic fixture involving topflight teams in England this term.
Of course, Mikel's heart will be with Chelsea having spent more than a decade at Stamford Bridge before shifting to Chinese Super League club Tianjin Teda in January 2017 but there is a story behind his move to the Londoners.
Manchester United were interested in the midfielder's signature after scouting him at the Meridian Cup and 2003 Fifa U17 World Cup but he backed out of the deal despite signing a contract.
Lyn Oslo and the Red Devils had to report Chelsea, Norwegian agent Rune Hauge and John Shittu to Fifa, and the imbroglio was resolved after one year after The Blues agreed to pay United 12 million pounds for the services of Mikel.
''Go get another one this weekend @chelseafc! 🏆,'' posted Mikel on Instagram, along with an accompanying picture showing him and four of his ex-teammates with the FA Cup.
Mikel helped Chelsea to win the FA Cup in 2007, 2009 and 2012, international teammate Victor Moses is in line to play against United today.
