Iceland Sweating On The Fitness Of Everton, Burnley Stars Ahead Of Nigeria Clash
Published: June 19, 2018
According to various reports in the Icelandic media, Everton attacking midfielder Gylfi þór Sigurðsson apparently did not participate in full training with the national team on Tuesday morning.
Iceland's national broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RúV) is reporting that it is unclear whether Sigurðsson is injured or possibly nursing a minor injury after the match against Argentina on Saturday, especially as nobody ran more than him on the pitch.
Iceland manager, Heimir Hallgrímsson, is also sweating on the fitness of Burnley winger Jóhann Berg Gudmundsson, who had to be substituted in the 63rd minute against Argentina due to a suspected calf injury.
The media and fans were allowed to watch only the first 15 minutes of Iceland's training session and it is not known if Sigurðsson participated in other activities.
The Everton star suffered a knee injury which had ruled him out of action for the rest of the 2017-18 season but returned to action in June, playing both friendlies against Norway and Ghana before going the full 90 vs Argentina.
Nigeria will take on Iceland in a must-win match at the Volgograd Arena, Volgograd on June 22.
