What Super Eagles Stars Are Saying After Painful Loss To Argentina
Published: June 27, 2018
The aftermath of the Super Eagles 2-1 defeat to Argentina in their last Group D Russia World Cup game yesterday evening has had a couple of their stars reacting to the agonizing loss.
Nigeria needed a win or a draw versus the Albiceleste to progress past the first round but Lionel Messi and Marcos Rojo struck either side of a Victor Moses leveler to put the South Americans through instead.
Gernot Rohr's young side will now have to put themselves together and look qualifying for the 2019 AFCON tournament following the halt in their World Cup adventure this year.
Thus, some of the team's players has had their say about the turnout on their Twitter handles:
Defender, William Troost-Ekong wrote on his handle.. "Hard to describe in words how that felt. It was an emotional rollercoaster. We gave everything against Argentina last night. I'm grateful and proud to have represented Nigeria and all Nigerians at this World Cup. But most of all I am humbled and thank God for bringing me this far"
Midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo tweeted, "This was one of the toughest games of my career. The result didn't go our way however I am truly honored and blessed to have this experience. To represent my country at a World Cup competing with the best players in the world at my age was a dream come true"
The team's captain, John Obi Mikel wrote, "We fought until the end and we are all hurting with you. Your support has driven us throughout the World Cup and we cannot thank you enough".
Wilfred Ndidi wrote on his handle, "Despite all, i feel honoured to play for my Country."
Defender, Elderson Echiejile wrote, "This has been very emotional and words cannot describe how we feel. We thank Nigerians for supporting us till the very end #supereagles #eue3"
