Official: Giant Nigerian Defender Pens New Deal With Yeovil Town
Published: July 05, 2018
Yeovil Town have announced through official channels that Nigerian defender Omar Sowunmi has committed his future to the club after penning a fresh two-year contract.
Sowunmi was out of contract with the EFL League Two club at the end of last month but has opted to remain with the Glovers despite interest from other teams in England.
The 22-year-old won two awards at Yeovil Town's end of season awards and claimed the Goal of the Season for his strike at Cheltenham on Boxing Day.
''Omar is a big signing for the future of this football club and we've put in a lot of effort to get this deal over the line,'' Town's boss told the club's official website.
"It's a big statement of intent from the owner and the chairman and allows us to keep the core of the squad from last season.
"He's developed at a very fast rate - which shows some of the others what can happen - and I'm excited that he's decided to pledge his future to Yeovil Town Football Club."
The 6 ft 6 in tall Sowunmi counts Ipswich Town, Braintree Town and Lowestoft Town among his former clubs.
