Chelsea Star Of Nigerian Descent Happy To Play Anywhere For The Blues
Published: July 24, 2018
England international of Nigerian descent, Ross Barkley, has stated that he's ready to play in multiple positions for Chelsea in the forthcoming season.
In yesterday's friendly against Perth Glory, Barkley was deployed in a three-man midfield along with Jorginho and Cesc Fabregas in the first half, while he operated on the left of the attacking three during the second half.
''As a young player breaking through at Everton, that is the position I played in,'' Barkley told Chelsea's official website on his role in the second half.
''I was in that position because it gave me freedom to express myself and I understand that role, and I understand the other roles in midfield so I am happy to play anywhere as long as I am on the pitch.''
Ten days ago, Chelsea confirmed the appointment of Italian Maurizio Sarri, who is known to favour a 4-3-3 formation unlike his predecessor Antonio Conte's 3-4-3 system.
''It has been very interesting. The style that he wants us to play, it is really exciting and very attacking, as well as being very organised.
''We have been understanding what he has been getting across in training but the more we do it in training, the more we get used to it and I can see from the training sessions that this season is going to be very exciting,'' added Barkley.
Barkley joined Chelsea on a five-and-a-half-year deal in January 2018; injuries limited his appearances to only four matches in the second half of last season.
