Super Eagles Coach Rohr Rates Chidozie Awaziem's Performance Against Seychelles
Published: September 09, 2018Porto defender Chidozie Awaziem won the competition for the right back position ahead of Leon Balogun, Kenneth Omeruo and Brian Idowu in yesterday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles.
The Super Eagles were faced with a crisis at right back ahead of the game with the Pirates following the non-availability of the three defenders at the pecking order of right backs, Abdullahi Shehu, Tyronne Ebuehi and Ola Aina, due to injuries.
Turning a blind eye to the opposition, Rohr thinks Awaziem gave a good account of himself after opening his goalscoring account in Nigeria colours in his fifth game.
''Our good attitude, our good football, we were missing some players like the captain Obi Mikel, Ekong and Ola Aina, so we had some problems in the fullback position but they did it well.
''Awaziem even scored the goal from his position, we had the same spirit which we had in the World Cup.
''It was important for me to see we continue with the positive attitude against an aggressive opponent, it wasn't easy on this pitch.
''But we did it well, now we have our three points and can prepare quietly for our two matches against Libya.''
Up next, Nigeria will face Liberia in a friendly on Tuesday, September 11 before next month's competitive match with Libya.
