Ghana 1 Nigeria 1 (1-3 Pens) : Golden Eaglets Qualify For 2019 U17 AFCON In Tanzania
Published: September 15, 2018
Nigeria's Golden Eaglets have emerged winners of their WAFU Zone B U17 AFCON qualifiers after defeating Ghana 3-1 on penalties on Saturday evening following their 1-1 draw after regulation time.
Nigeria beat Ivory Coast and hosts Republic of Niger in their last two games prior to this evening's showpiece staged at Stade Général Seyni Kountché, Niamey.
After a goalless first period in the pulsating encounter, Ghana opened the scoring in the 54th minute having sustained some measure of pressure on Nigeria.
But attacker, Akinkunmi Amoo finished off a brilliant team move 13 minutes later to level up scores.
With both sides failing to find a winner for the rest of the game, action boiled down to spot kicks to determine the victor on the night.
Though Amoo missed during the shoot-out, Ishaya, Tijani and Ibrahim all scored for Nigeria; with Ghana's Issaaku also fluffing his lines from the spot, goalkeeper, John Amah equally stopped the opposition's Agyapong to cement the victory.
