Leicester City Boss Reveals Why Iheanacho & Vardy Started Together For The 8th Time In Premier League
Published: September 22, 2018Speaking to reporters after Leicester City's 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town at the King Power Stadium, manager Claude Puel has explained the reason behind his decision to name Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy together in the starting lineup.
Of the 27 matches Iheanacho has played for the Foxes in the English topflight since his arrival at the club from Manchester City, only eight times he has started a game with the England international.
The Nigeria international first supported Vardy in attack against Huddersfield just over a year ago, before playing with the number nine in matches against West Brom, Swansea City, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the 2017-2018 campaign.
All Iheanacho's four goals for Leicester City in the Premier League were scored with Vardy on the pitch.
''We were at home, we had to respond, we had to win the game. This team plays deep. It was important to put another striker in the box with Vardy,'' Puel told reporters.
Leicester City's next competitive fixture is against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium on Tuesday in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
