Must-See Goal: Crotone's Libya Midfielder Fires Warning To Super Eagles After Netting Maradona-Like Goal
Published: September 28, 2018
Crotone's Libya international Ahmad Benali has sent a warning to his country's next opponents in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Nigeria, after scoring a spectacular goal for Crotone in their 2-1 loss to Pescara on Tuesday.
The former Manchester City youth-team skipper featured in the headlines in the Italian press after his 49th minute goal in the fifth round of matches in the Serie B.
The Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport praised Benali for scoring against his former team, whom he represented for three years before joining Crotone in the 2017-2018 season, adding that such goals bring spectators to the stadiums.
Benali's goal from near the center circle has been likened to a similar strike from one of the best-known footballers of all time, Argentina legend Diego Maradona, when he was playing for Argentina's youth team.
While the central midfielder went the distance against Pescara, his Crotone teammate Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo was introduced as a substitute three minutes from time.
