Eduok Pips Omeruo To Nigerian Player Of The Week; Maja & Ighalo Start In Attack TOTW
Published: October 08, 2018
Allnigeriasoccer.com reveals the most outstanding Nigerian
players in each position in the last one week and the Player of the Week award goes to Kasimpasa striker Emem Eduok.
Goalkeeper
Austin Ejide (Hapoel Hadera) : Hapoel Hadera are the surprise package of the Israeli Premier League this season, topping the table after six rounds and undefeated. Ejide has been in brilliant form and posted his third shutout in five matches in the 1-0 win against Ironi Kiryat Shmona.
Defenders
Musa Mohammed (HNK Gorica) : Considering the fact he is predominantly a right back, the former Golden Eaglets skipper has shown his versatility this season playing as a left back, though he was deployed in his best position in the 2-1 win against one of the top teams in Croatia, Rijeka.
Kenneth Omeruo (Chelsea on loan to Leganes) : Omeruo gave nothing away in his first appearance for Leganes, finishing with a game-high six clearances. Not bad considering that was his first game for his clubs in five months.
Fikayo Tomori (Chelsea on loan to Derby) : Put in a good defensive work in Derby's 1-1 draw at Queens Park Rangers. Made two interceptions and five clearances, and won two aerial duels.
Ola Aina ( Chelsea on loan to Torino) : Though he was caught ball watching before Ciano scored in the 64th minute, Aina supplemented Torino's attack very well. The Chelsea loanee made a game-leading three interceptions and none of the remaining 27 players that got game time made more key passes, with three accumulated before subbing out in the 65th minute.
Midfielders
Emem Eduok (Kasimpasa) : One of Nigeria's most in-form players in Europe at the moment and a recall to the Super Eagles for next month's cracker vs South Africa might be in the offing. No player had more shots than the Nigerian in Kasimpasa's win over Goztepe. Though he is offensive by trade, Eduok made two successful tackles and two interceptions and committed two fouls vs Goztepe. He's Nigeria's Player of the Week.
Alex Iwobi (Arsenal) : Helped Arsenal to record a 3-0 win at Qarabag in the Europa League and was fantastic in the London derby against Fulham.
Philip Billing (Huddersfield Town) : The Huddersfield Town Player of the Month once again showed his class as the Terriers were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley. Keeping Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi out of the Team of the Week shows how good he is.
Moses Ogbu (Sirius) : It's three goals in two matches for Ogbu after netting a brace against Chinedu Obasi's Elfsborg. In front of goal, he is a penalty box predator with two close-range goals on Saturday and also bagged an assist for his team's third in a 4-2 win.
Strikers
Odion Ighalo (Changchun Yatai) : Unless the former Watford man experiences a serious dip in form or gets injured in the last five matches, this would be his best season since he turned professional. His two goals against Tianjin Teda saw him equal his best goals return in a single season (20). Had a game-high 5 shots and a team-high 3 key passes.
Josh Maja (Sunderland) : The former Man City youth-teamer has been magical this season, with his goal against Bradford his ninth league goal in 12 games. He's the top scorer in League One.
